Subway Surfers playing review from a kid

My third grader seems to have inherited my love of endless runner games.  While her gaming time is limited, one game she always turns to with her valuable minutes is Subway Surfers apk. On her own initiative, she decided to write a review
I think Subway Surfers is a fun filled game, but it takes patience.In Subway Surfers, you have to dodge trains, jump barriers, duck under big barriers, and repeat those things until you die.  You die by banging into something or not jumping or ducking something.  There are also powers.  A jetpack allows you to fly. The sneakers allow you to jump onto trains and over big barriers, but be careful; if you jump with the super sneakers by a tunnel (entrance) you could die.  A coin magnet gets coins for you and a 2x star get you twice times as many (points).  There are also missions you will see if you go to the menu (pause menu).  While you are running you can also pick up boxes (mystery boxes) and letters to make a word.
There you have it – an endorsement from an elementary school kid!  The words above are mostly her own (except for anything in parenthesis). I did correct her spelling, as did spell check, but really ‘patience’ is a hard word to spell when you don’t have any!
Subway Surfers is a free app with no necessary pesky in-app purchases.  Players quickly earn cash which allows them to ‘buy’ powers in the store.  There is an option to purchase cash for prizes as well (using real cash!), but we never had to avail ourselves of that option as coins are earned quickly in the game.  Be warned that there are a lot of places for a child to press that will take them right to the app store to purchase a new game…which, luckily, they cannot do without your password.
The creators of Subway Surfer release updates every few months to keep the app fresh – currently they are ‘touring the world’ and bringing different cities with each update.  Special characters and hover boards are thrown in around major holidays as well.
Overall, its one of our favorite endless runner games around!

Subway Surfers playing tips you need to know

Having never possessed the stamina required to complete a marathon, I feel a resentment of sorts towards endless runner games. How come the hero in Temple Run can run as far as he likes – skill of player permitting – and I can barely run two miles? And don’t tell me exercise, because that clearly isn’t what gives the characters of Subway Surfers an advantage. No, they have access to jetpacks and hoverboards. Not fair.
Not unlike my day-to-day life, the goal of Subway Surfers free is to evade the cops at all costs. This means dodging trains, jumping hurdles, and taking advantage of power-ups like the previously mentioned hoverboard. It’s as though the developers read my diary and decided to make a game out of it.
The controls aren’t unlike what you find in most endless runners: Swipe left and right to switch lanes, up to jump, and down to tuck and roll. If you’ve any power-ups or items in your arsenal, a double-tap will activate them. It’s a very streamlined control scheme, which compliments the reaction-heavy style of gameplay. That said, I still occasionally leap to the left when I clearly should have leaped to the right.
Being that it’s a 3D endless runner, there are plenty of comparisons to be made to Temple Run. That said, the developers of Subway Surfers 9game avoided turning it into anything close to a carbon copy. Having seen many a clone arrive and get promptly removed from the App Store, the distinctions are plenty appreciated. For starters, there’s no sort of tilt mechanic for gathering coins. On top of that, there are no corners you have to turn, making it easier to plan moves ahead of time. This results in the game being a bit easier, which, depending on who you are, may or may not be a good thing.
The power-ups in Subway Surfers add a level of variety to the gameplay. There’s a magnet that attracts any and all coins you’re near, boots that increase your speed, a jetpack that places you above all the obstacles, and more. You can earn them by playing the game, but the option to purchase and upgrade them via in-game store also exists. You can get quite a bit of currency for just $0.99, but the game is good about giving you a decent amount from just playing.

Free to download, the game can be played in a casual manner as you check in during a coffee break to train more troops, attack another player or two at lunch, use up all the resources you just got by starting builds, check back in the afternoon and see that you’ve been whacked and start training more troops while you are shielded.
Once you rebuild the castle, you can join a clan. This gives you clan chat and troop defense. Each level you upgrade the castle to gives you a greater number of spaces that can be filled with troops clan members donate. These troops will deploy in defense when enemies get within range of the castle, or can be deployed during an attack by dropping the castle icon on a map. This is actually quite a fun feature as a small tower spawns with your clan flag and the troops pour out accompanied by heroic music. Higher level clan members often gift a high level soldier to a lower level member for defense as well as amusement. “Just wait until THAT pops out when you get attacked.”
